At this bustling time of year, quiet moments are hard to come by, but I treasure them. I suppose I'm at an age at which I consider time more precious than money, and in those rare moments when I get my space to myself, I tend to embrace the silence. A quiet room can encourage contemplation, philosophical epiphanies, creative ideas. Silence is the ever-productive well.
My favorite quiet place is probably my room, which is up in our attic and slightly insulated from the rest of the house. I put a tiny Christmas tree up there, so I like to light it and sit at my little desk, perhaps with some soft carols playing in the background. I sit and think and gaze around.
And then I write.
What's your favorite quiet place?
